Proposal 3

Title
Owner

Research Topic
Identification Card, Bluetooth Sensors

Background
How are the people going to access the details of yours when they need it?
Facebook? (when there's no internet connection available)
Identification Card!
But, how's going to work? Nowadays in the office, we still need to fill in the form with our details, or even thumbprints MANUALLY.

Problem Identification
It's going to take a lot of time filling personal details in a FORM. Why not we change it to digital.

Aim and Objectives
• The easiness of accessing personal details
• Save times, save paper, save energy
• To companies which always using form to get customers or clients details,
easier to do the works. Most importantly, SAVE TIME!

Motivation
Nowadays, queuing is the one most sickening thing in the world. For examples, doing passport need to wait 2-3 hours of Looooooong Que. this is because everything is written in paper and need to key back in to PC, that cost lots of time.

Ideation and Concept
Storage card with sensors(still doing research)
Table/tablet Sensors with Bluetooth/Wireless/Infrared.
When the card place on the table/tablet, it will appears the person's details. Of course, editing the personal details are available.
When placing the card on the table/tablet, the details will appear on the big screen.
• Taking Portrait Photo (to update the photo of the identification)

Review, Analysis and Precedence Studies

This is Microsoft Surface. The idea of researching on this is, placing a thing on the surface, it will appear the details.

While our local Identification Card is just a normal card that shows our name, I.C. Number, and house address.

TouchZle

Research Topic
Multi-touch, Jigsaw Puzzle Game

Background
Jigsaw Puzzle is a puzzle game, or a "board" game that made with card boards, long long time ago. Normally, or almost all of the puzzles are design with beautiful graphics, super cars, or photos.

Problem Identification
Normal puzzle doesn't bring much message or the meaning of playing puzzles to the people. They just solve the puzzles, and that's it.

Aim and Objectives
 • To let people know, cooperation and teamwork are important.
• To bring a message, Once United, It's Beautiful.

Motivation
Nowadays, racism issues are all around. Not only politics, the schooling area where to teach a person to become a better ones, came out with a serious racism issue. Personally I think that racism is a non-rational & childish thinking. Why would a person living in the same country with Multi-Culture, Multi-Racial society starts commenting and firing on a certain race.

Ideation and Concept
It's going to be a multi-touch gaming experience. Using a multi-touch panel to play a jigsaw puzzle, that's a whole new experience. Using hand zooming in and out, turning around to look for a correct place for that piece of puzzle.

Review, Analysis and Precedence Studies

This is a Digital Jigsaw Puzzle game.

This is a Multi-Touch Table

Design Approach
Using a multi-touch tablet, link to the PC, while there's a projector projecting on a big screen. Overall it's going to be Anti-Racism design.

Blend'er

Research Topic
NIKE MUSIC SHOE

Background
NIKE MUSIC SHOE
This installation/performance was performed by a band called HIFANA from Japan. Throughout this installation, they are using SHOES(Nike) to perform different sounds become a music. Inside the shoes, there are Bend Sensors and Acceleration Sensors. Of course, computing software and hardware are needed to perform. Software they are using is GarageBand, and the Hardware is Arduino.

Bend Sensor - A bend sensor is a type of resistor. It is composed of tiny patches of carbon that change resistance values when bent from convex to concave shapes. The bend sensor is used in conjunction with a voltage divider to provide changing voltages, which the Teleo reads on an Analog input.

Acceleration Sensor - Accelerometers are designed to detect changes in force resulting from fall, tilt, motion, positioning, shock and vibration. Freescale has created three ranges of accelerometers to detect these changes: low g (less than 20 g), medium g (between 20 g to 100 g) and high g (100 g to 500 g).

Sound/Music Making Software/Hardware
Arduino -
Arduino can sense the environment by receiving input from a variety of sensors and can affect its surroundings by controlling lights, motors, and other actuators. The microcontroller on the board is programmed using the Arduino Programming Language (based on Wiring) and the Arduino development environment (based on Processing). Arduino projects can be stand-alone or they can communicate with software on running on a computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP).

GarageBand
GarageBand is a software where people use to do music recording/music making. This software is available for Apple Desktop & Laptops.

Aim and Objectives
i) To let people know, do not judge people by the looks.
ii) To bring a message, different person, there are different abilities, specialties and personalities in them.
iii) To let people enjoy, the fun of Music Making and Ubiquitous Computing.

Motivation
I always wanted to become a Professional Deejay, where making musics and sounds to bring up the crowd, and enjoy the music. Become a Deejay is easy, but to use Ubiquitous Computing method in Deejay is not an easy job. So, a challenge is a motivation.

Ideation and Concept
Overall, it's going to be a person interactive with SHOES(sensors).
*Subject matter may be changed due to concept issue. For now will use shoes.
People will use their hand to hold the shoes, bend it/fold it to create sounds. Other the other hand, it's not only hand, SHOES, so user can put on the shoes on the feet to function it as well.

Review, Analysis and Precedence Studies
Everyone love music, this is because music can show their mood, their expression or even their own style of living.
For example, tons of people loves night clubbing with the catchy beats music. Deejay is the person who brings the music to them, and they enjoy it.

Design Approach
The design is going to be a SHOE Deejay Table.

The Making Of Nike Music Shoes

In this video they've shown how they used the sensor, not only bend sensors, but also acceleration sensors as well.

Bend Sensors

This video inspires me about Bend Sensors and doing more research on it.

This is a Nike Free Run Ads. This ads inspired me to do something with it for the Final Year Project.

They are using Bend Sensors, Computers, Mixer, and the last but not least Speaker.

Examples of Ubiquitous Computing

What is Ubiquitous Computing?

Meaning of Words:

Ubiquitous : existing or being everywhere/having or seeming to have the ability to be everywhere at once.

Computing :
the activity of using computers and writing programs for them/
the use of a computer to process data or perform calculations.

So, basically Ubiquitous Computing (Ubicomp) means the activity of using computers and writing programs at everywhere, anywhere(at once)

Mark Weiser is the father of Ubiquitous Computing. He created "Ubiquitous Computing" this phrase in 1988.

Mark Weiser's principles description about Ubiquitous Computing
  • The purpose of a computer is to help you do something else.
  • The best computer is a quiet, invisible servant.
  • The more you can do by intuition the smarter you are; the computer should extend your unconscious.
  • Technology should create calm.
